Safe Families for Children: Host Families

All children deserve a safe and loving home, and Safe Families for Children works tirelessly to make this happen for all families. Built upon their core values of radical hospitality, disruptive generosity, and intentional compassion, Safe Families for Children is creating a safer, more peaceful environment for children and families in need, one home at a time.

Established in 2003, Safe Families for Children provides support and care for families in a crisis. A testimonial from a Host Family said, “It’s an organization that is concerned with development instead of relief only,” and this perfectly captures the mission of Safe Families for Children. Their goals are to provide safety for children, stability and rehabilitation for families, and to reduce the number of children entering the child welfare system.

A volunteer-based nonprofit located in over 120 cities across the world, this program puts children and their families first through aid from Host Families, Family Friends, Resource Friends, and Family Coaches. Their system provides a realm of different kinds of support to children and families. Host Families take care of children to allow parents time and space to get back on their feet. Family Friends, Resource Friends, and Family Coaches equip families in need and Host families with the resources they need to keep parents moving forward and children safe and cared for.

In 2016, the Open Hearts, Open Purses members voted to award Safe Families for Children a $10,000 grant that would be used to expand the number of Host Families in South Madison County.
