Charlie’s Fund for Children

Charlie’s Fund for Children

To invest in a child’s success is to invest in the future. Eyeglasses, book fees, field trips… Charlie’s Fund for Children may be able to help.

Growing up, Charlie Owens' family had very little and struggled financially. As he grew, Charlie vowed that he would overcome - and he did own and operate a successful fuel business. Thanks to his success, and his understanding of the unmet needs of children in households that are financially burdened, Charlie often gave to the less fortunate in South Madison County. When Charlie saw signs of hardships like those he had faced, he addressed them - and his generosity changed lives for the better.

The majority of Charlie’s estate was left to South Madison Community Foundation to create “Charlie’s Fund for Children,” which helpschildren in need who reside in South Madison County. Funds may be used to address various needs, including, but not limited to: Tutoring, Counseling, Food, Clothing, Medical and Activities/Outings.

In the twenty years since Charlie died, this fund has awarded $637,935 in support, including $65,878 in 2025.
