Pendleton Community Public Library: Project SUDS

A common sentiment of newcomers and long-time patrons alike is that once you walk into the Pendleton Community Public Library, you feel right at home. But did you know that the library also has a reputation for operating programs outside its walls?

Operators of a community garden, a food pantry, a school-library reading partnership, and other community programs, the mission of the library is “to provide traditional library services, creative initiatives, and up-to-date technology in a comfortable facility with friendly, helpful staff.” Their values include fostering creativity and success, providing a comfortable place to work and study, and committing to serving the community through their resources and staff.

In 2014, Open Hearts, Open Purses members voted to award the Pendleton Community Public Library a $10,000 grant to fund Project SUDS, which added personal hygiene and cleaning supplies to food pantries, helping those who struggle financially to gain access to the higher priced daily necessities.

The outreach of the Pendleton Community Public Library stretches across all different kinds of people, bringing them together for book clubs, all-ages events, and accessible resources that accumulate to provide community health and vitality.
