In 2019, the Open Hearts, Open Purses women’s giving circle awarded the Lapel Stony Creek Fire Service Territory with a $10,000 grant voted on by the OHOP members. This grant funded advanced training for 15 of the LSCFST volunteers.
In his presentation, EMS Captain Jason Renner shared a problem that he and the Lapel Stony Creek EMTs often face. When out on runs, there are times when they are unable to provide the necessary care because they are not trained in advanced life-saving techniques. When this happens, they must wait for someone from another department with the proper certification to help the patient. Time is everything for first responders, so these delays can cause problems for patients.
With the OHOP grant, 15 volunteer firefighters received training that took them from being able to perform basic life support to advanced life support services.
Not only will Lapel Stony Creek EMTs save time when saving lives, they will save large amounts of money that would originally go to calling in other responders from different departments.
With this new training, the LSCFST can better protect and serve its residents. It is clear that the LSCFST provides the best care possible for its residents, and that it will continue to for years to come.
